There are three types of enemas used on the Gerson Therapy:
- The Coffee Enema
- The Chamomile Tea Enema
- The Castor Oil Enema
Here is another video that shows how an enema works on the inside.
How to prepare 1 coffee enema:
Boil 32 oz of distilled water in a stainless steel pot. Bring to a boil. | Add the light to medium roast organic coffee | 3 rounded tablespoons for 1 32oz coffee to the boiling water, boil it for 3 - 5 minutes. | Reduce the heat, cover your pot and let it simmer for 15 min. Turn off the heat, let it cool down to body temperature and strain it into your enema bucket for immediate use. |
OR... prepare concentrate for the day
example: non malignant with 3 coffee enemas per day

Boil 32 oz of distilled water in a stainless steel pot. Bring to a boil. | Add the 9 rounded tablespoons light to medium roast ground organic coffee to the boiling water, boil it for 3-5 minutes. | Reduce the heat, cover your pot and let it simmer for 15 min. Some of the liquid will boil away, add enough distilled water to keep the 32oz. |
Strain the concentrate into 3 x 32oz jars, divide coffee equally and fill the jars up with distilled water. Store in refrigerator not longer than 24 hours. | OR... strain the concentrate into 3 x 8oz jars for easier storage. Store in refrigerator not longer than 24 hours. Add 24oz distilled water later when you need it. | Once you are ready for your coffee enema bring the coffee up to body temperature and pour it into your enema bucket for immediate use. |
We highly recommend to prepare the coffee for the day the night before. This is extremely helpful in case you wake up not feeling well.
You will be happy to be able to just grab a jar.

What you need for the enema:
Once you get your bucket and tube, cut off the piece of the tube with the little hole in it. Connect one end of the tube with the bucket.
The connector connects the other end of the plastic tube from the bucket with the red rubber catheter. Never insert the plastic tube inside the colon as you can damage your colon!
The red rubber tube is soft and safer.
How to do the enema
Always make sure the coffee is at body temperature.
The bathtub or shower is the best place to do the enema, but if this is not an option for you, lay on the floor with a yoga mat or towels underneath you.
Make sure you closed the tube with the plastic clamp and put the coffee into your enema bucket. Open the clamp a bit to let the coffee come out just enough to make sure there is no air in the tube. You can use a bit of coffee or castor oil to lubricate the tip of the red rubber, so it goes in easier.
Lay down and put the bucket on a stool or bathtub rim above you (not more than 2 feet) and insert the tube into the rectum 6-8 inches. There is a little bump inside us a few inches into the colon, make sure the tube gently goes over that bump further into the colon. Open the clamp and allow the coffee to run in slowly to avoid cramping. You can let some in, then close tube for a bit, open again to eventually let it all in. As the coffee goes in, you can slowly turn over on your right side with your legs pulled up to your chest and stay in the position for the duration of the enema.
In the beginning it might be hard to hold, but it gets easier after time.
Hold the coffee for 12-15 minutes. If you have trouble holding or taking in the full 32oz, lower the bucket. If you feel cramps or spasm, lower the bucket to the floor to allow the flow to back up a bit to relieve pressure. After a few seconds, slowly start raising the bucket back up to the original level. You can also control the flow of the solution by pinching the tube with your fingers or adjusting the clamp in a partially closed position.
You will figure out quickly what works best for you :)
If you have symptoms of toxicity such as headache, fever, nausea, intestinal spasms and drowsiness you can do an additional enema to help the body to get rid of the toxins.
Never go to bed with these symptoms. Just do an extra coffee and you will feel better.
As a general rule, eat a little bit, like a small piece of fruit before your first coffee enema of the day to activate the upper digestive tract.
If you are on the full Gerson Therapy you will be doing 4-5 coffee enemas daily along with your 13 juices. On the non malignant protocol you will be doing 3 coffee enemas along with 10 juices.
As a rule of thumb you should keep a 3 x 8 oz juices : 1 coffee enema ratio. This is important to keep the electrolytes in balance.

Here is a good illustration on how it looks like when one is lying on the right side during the coffee enema and that it is important to insert the catered 6-8 inches. Thank you Penny Urich-Brenner for your permission to use it.
Clean your equipment
Clean you bucket immediately with soap and hot water. We use Dr. Bronner's Baby soap (for everything). Roll the red rubber on the ground to get everything out. You can use H2O2 as well. Fill the tube with a little bit of H2O2 and pinch the tube for a moment before you release it.

Get Things Moving
The only mild exercise that is approved when one is on the therapy is a short walk or gentle bouncing on a rebounder ( no jumping ) for a few minutes a few times daily. The feet don't leave the rebounder. It really helps the toxins move through the lymph system and you are smart to rebound before your coffee break.
Skin brushing 3 times a day helps moving toxins as well and makes the coffee enemas more efficient.
